Tonsley Science Fair returns to inspire next generation

The next generation of curious minds will descend on Tonsley Innovation District today for the annual Tonsley Science Fair – a STEM extravaganza packed with science demonstrations and brain-teasing tasks to inspire jobs of the future.

Primary school-aged children and their families will participate in hands-on activities and exhibitions, including rocket making and launching, bridge building, marshmallow and spaghetti towers and an electric circuit challenge.

Hosted by popular South Australian science educators, The Science Collective, the fair is designed to encourage young South Australians to become more inquisitive about the world around them – and inspire an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) fields, boosting employment opportunities for the State.

Technology will be a strong focus throughout the fair with robotics featuring in the Techspace Learning and Tonsley-based RoboRoos interactive displays, as well as virtual reality experiences offered by Ignite VR.

The Tonsley Science Fair is made possible through the support of the Tonsley community, including Renewal SA, Flinders University, Micro-X and RoboRoos.

It will run over two sessions (10am to 1pm; 1.30pm to 4.30pm) and is free for children under the age of 16 – an event first.

The fair comes just days after announcement of the historic AUKUS agreement in which South Australia secured the nuclear-powered submarine project – set to create thousands of high-skilled jobs.
