New vision highlights better journeys and connectivity under T2D
Newly released fly-through vision of the landmark 10.5-kilometre North-South Corridor - Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project highlights the connected journey from beginning to end.
Clever design through the Urban Design Strategy ensures connective journeys through two sets of twin tunnels in the north (Richmond to Torrensville) and south (Clovelly Park to Glandore), an open motorway and the areas that surround them.
Extensive work has been undertaken on the preferred alignment and configuration, which uses a combination of tunnels, lowered and ground-level motorway, as well as underpasses at key intersections.
The Strategy seeks to provide safe and efficient journeys for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, connect open spaces and recreational facilities, and create economic opportunties.
Additionally, the Strategy design respects, celebrates and integrates the important cultural heritage of the Kaurna peoples, as well as state and local heritage places within the T2D project area.
Locals are encouraged to complete a survey to provide further insights into the urban design for the project or to drop into a community session at the new central T2D Community Information Centre located at 290 South Road, Hilton.
To complete the survey and to find out more about drop-in sessions, visit www.t2d.sa.gov.au/planning-design/more-than-a-motorway.
Quotes attributable to Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King
The Australian Government is improving our road networks to ensure they are safe, efficient and connect our communities.
The North-South Corridor - Torrens to Darlington project will deliver an outstanding urban design that provides great journeys for everyone and will leave a positive legacy of greener, connected communities where people want to live, work and visit.
This vital project is one of the biggest infrastructure undertakings in the country, and our Government has significantly increased its investment to match the South Australian Government’s $7.7 billion commitment to see it to full completion.
Quotes attributable to SA Infrastructure and Transport, Energy and Mining Minister Tom Koutsantonis
I’m confident this design will deliver great outcomes for both motorists and local communities.
The T2D project will complete the North-South Corridor, creating 78 kilometres of non-stop, traffic light-free motorway between Gawler and Old Noarlunga.
Once complete, motorists will bypass 21 sets of traffic lights between the River Torrens and Darlington, improving travel times by up to 30 to 40 minutes during peak hour traffic.
Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Boothby Louise Miller-Frost
Good urban design is critical to the success of the T2D project and the broader benefits such as surface roads, tunnels and the surrounding areas that connect with neighbouring communities.
We’re working in partnership with the Kaurna cultural authority, local communities and councils to maximise the broader benefits of the T2D project.
The T2D part of the North-South Corridor will be a game changer for residents in Boothby with shorter commute times and reduced traffic impact on local neighbourhoods.
Quotes attributable to State Member for Elder Nadia Clancy
We all know the difference this project will make to improve travel times and decrease congestion - but it’s important to emphasise that it’s also about improving the amenity and connectivity of the surrounding suburbs.
We’re taking care to do just that, as this new vision shows, and we want to hear from residents of those suburbs about what matters most to them.
Quotes attributable to State Member for Badcoe Jayne Stinson
South Australians have until December 19 to have their say on the Urban Design Strategy and I certainly urge Badcoe residents to take part and help make sure this process produces outcomes our community can be proud of.
Sometimes seeing is believing though, so this new vision showing the non-stop journey on the new motorway is invaluable to help demonstrate the benefits of the finished T2D - both for motorists and residents.
